Couples can use the Rotation Diet together. To do this, men use the basic Rotation Diet for women and add approximately 600 calories each day, throughout the twenty-one days.
Weeks 1 and 3
For best results, in Weeks 1 and 3 men use the Rotation Diet for women and add all of the following each day:
2 more grain servings (bread, cereal, or crackers) 50 percent larger portions of meat, fish, or fowl
1 tablespoon of butter, oil, or regular salad dressing
3 safe fruits
This is the healthiest way to add the 600-calorie difference required by men when they use the Rotation Diet for women during Weeks 1 and 3.
In Week 2, when women are at approximately 1200 calories and men at 1800 calories, men have a tremendous amount of flexibility. Since the 1200-calorie diet for women has been designed to provide the RDAs of essential vitamins and minerals, a man could add 600 calories to the Rotation Diet for women in many different ways and still end up with a nutritious diet. For best results during Week 2, men should use the menu for women (which already includes three safe fruits and 1 tablespoon of fat for spread or seasoning) and add all of the following each day:
2 more grain servings (bread, cereal, or crackers)
50 percent larger portions of vegetables and main dishes
This will bring men up to about 1700 calories a day. The difference on the underside is due to the recipes in the male diet for Week 2 having slightly more fat in their preparation than the Week 2 recipes for women. This results from our intent to follow the nutritional guidelines of the United States Senate Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs in all daily menus of 1200 calories and over. In relation to total calories, these guidelines call for approximately 55 to 60 percent from carbohydrate, 25 to 30 percent from fat, and about 15 percent from protein. Thus, as calorie levels increase, men can have more of every nutrient. Including fat! But I wouldn't overdo it.
And women please note that the Week 2 menus and the suggested recipes in the men's version of the Rotation Diet are very likely to be close to maintenance menus and recipes for you.
